When should i seek help for depression?

If you’ve experienced the following for two weeks or longer, it is recommended that you seek out psychological support:

  • Feelings of hopelessness or emptiness

  • Feelings of worthlessness or self-blame

  • Loss of interest in most activities, including relationships, sports, hobbies, and work

  • Sleep disturbances — either insomnia or oversleeping

  • Weight changes — either loss of weight or weight gain

  • Serious lack of energy

Sometimes, depression can show up in your body as back pain or headaches. Suicidal thoughts can also accompany depression and require immediate care.

won’t depression resolve on its own?

Depression doesn’t just fade away. It’s not a temporary state of the blues. Trying to “get over it” doesn’t always work. Depression can persist for years and it could drastically change the way you experience life. Dr. Padron understands depression can be debalitating at times, causing life to feel “numb” or “on pause”. Using cognitive behavioral therapy, she can help you feel like yourself again.

What TREATMENTS ARE AVAILABLE FOR DEPRESSION?

Dr. Padron begins with a comprehensive review of your physical and mental health. She consults with you to learn more about your family life, social support systems, medical history, and work environment. She integrates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) with other methods to help you face your depression straight on. By utilizing CBT you will learn to recognize thinking patterns that may be maintaining your depression and practice skills that can increase your engagement in pleasant activities. Some of the goals of treatment include improving “balanced healthy thinking”, learning new coping skills, and enhancing mood via behavioral activation.

Dr. Padron also helps you work through any events or trauma that are contributing to your psychological condition. Persistent feelings of sadness or a lack of motivation aren’t to be tolerated. Depression is a real medical issue, not a personal weakness, and deserves intervention.

If you have feelings that suggest depression, don’t hesitate to call Dr. Myriam Padron’s office or schedule an appointment online.
